Jeju Island

Days on the volcano isle

A volcanic island of grassy tuff cones and black basalt shorelines, where haenyeo divers surface with abalone, Hallasan rises through cedar mist to a crater lake, and tangerine groves and Osulloc's green-tea rows unroll beneath endless coastal light.

Good to know

Rent a car early

Jeju's sights are spread across the island and public buses run infrequently — book a rental car (international permit accepted) well ahead in peak season.

Weather turns fast on Hallasan

Check trail checkpoint cutoff times before hiking; rangers turn back climbers who haven't reached them by early afternoon.

Udo ferries sell out

The short ferry to Udo Island stops running in high wind and fills by mid-morning in summer, so go early.

Citrus season varies

Hallabong and cheonhyehyang picking runs roughly November to March; ask your orchard which fruit is in season before booking.

Carry cash for markets

Dongmun and Seogwipo night markets favour cash or Korean mobile pay; not every stall accepts foreign cards.
